1st Supplement

This is your reminder to breathe. Take 3 deep breaths in and out
“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.” ― Thich Nhat Hang

Always remember the value of taking 3 deep breaths. No matter what is happening in life, taking 3 deep breaths meaning 3 deep inhalations and 3 long exhalations will always help you feel better. Deep breathing is an anchor to bring you back to the present moment.

2nd Supplement

A colleague of mine works with period poverty and today, I wanted to share with you some information about her charity. Here is a brief description of what Anne wrote along with a link for more information and to donate.

Working in some challenging and complex areas in Kenya I bring menstrual/sexual and reproductive health education together with menstrual dignity to adolescents in disadvantaged communities so they can complete their schooling.

The girls we work with don’t attend school when they have a period and most drop out leaving them highly susceptible to early child marriage.

Adolescent pregnancy runs at 1 in 5 adolescents and 1 in 3 have experienced some sort of gender-based violence.

Sadly, HIV infection rates amongst adolescents’ accounts for 35% of new cases and two thirds of these are young women.

The dignity bags we give the girls will last for over 5 years. These allow them to continue and complete their education severely reducing the risk of child marriage, sexual assault, early pregnancy, and HIV.

We teach the older women how to sew reusable pads and in turn they teach others and are becoming advocates in their communities encouraging the girls to remain in school.

We include boys in our lessons, so they grow to respect women, understand their bodies, helping to foster gender equality and reducing the stigma and shame.
